Frequent Flyer

I've been doing a lot of business travel this year and to cope with being on the road Siri and I have become inseparable.

I love that she's discrete, rechargeable and that she keeps her charge for weeks and weeks.

I do, however, live in fear that one day I will forget her in my hotel bed.  I've just become a "frequent flyer" at the hotel I stay at in NY and it would be pretty embarassing to walk in one day and have them say, "Welcome back Miss Kit, I believe you left something here on your last visit."

I mean, I know it's NY City and they've probably seen everything, but I'm anonymous for a reason.

So you can imagine my CHAGRIN when I got home from NY last week and couldn't find Siri ANYWHERE.

I checked every pocket of my bag.  I checked my dresser, my toilet kit, etc.  NOTHING.

I started to panic when I thought - MAYBE I plugged it in?  (To charge it I hide it in my closet)

VOILA!

Saved!

Siri and I are back in NY again this week to close a big deal. Wish us luck.

 

Don't Judge Me. You've Got Better Things To Do.

Last week a friend was texting me about a stranger that they were observing in a public place.

By his account, the stranger was behaving like a self absorbed, entitled ASS and yet I was still disappointed by my friend's story.

Not because I felt bad for the ass.  I totally didn't.  If you're going to go out in public and act like an ass you should be prepared for people to call you an ass.

But because my friend was getting sucked into that person's negativity.

I hate that.

I have a relative who focuses on the negative in everything around her to make herself feel better - and it's toxic.  It's so bad I can hardly have a conversation with her because I want to say, "If your friend is so stupid, stop being friends with her.  But don't call her your friend and stupid in the same breath!  Being a hypocrite is worse than being dumb!"

Via text it was hard to redirect my friend's attention from the ass but I wanted to.

I wanted to call him up and say, "Let it go.  Treat him like an inconvient stop light that you didn't think twice about.  He's not worth it.  You have better things to do."

Negativity is a choice.  Choose something else.

You have better things to do.

 

I'm Sorry I Didn't Make it to Your Party. Oh, You Didn't Notice?

One of the nice things about my recent stress attacks is that it's helping me remember to prioritize things better - and not try to do everything.

Normally I make every effort to attend events I dread out of a sense of guilt and then wonder why I spend the entire event on edge.  And then spend the next three days feeling guilty that I wasn't more pleasant.  

Now I'm declining sweetly and spending my limited free time doing what I want to do.  I may feel guilty about not going but at least I'm not feeling guilty AND sabotaging my Saturdays.

And, shockingly enough, most people don't care so much that I've declined their event that it's even worth feeling guilty about.

I know, I find it hard to believe too.

 

 

Two Valuable Lessons

Tonight I noticed that someone had written on my house in magic marker.  Just as I was wondering who would have done such a thing I noticed the initials.  My 7yo daughter's initials.

I called her out to where I was.  "Did you write on the house?" I asked her.  She nodded.

"Go get a sponge and clean it." I told her.  This was not the first time.

Then I explained to her about taking care of our things and how replacing things costs money and if we have to pay money to do work on the house it's money that we can't spend on other things like trips to Disney World.

And then suddenly she was furious with me and refused to speak to me and normally when she acts stubborn like that and won't go to bed and won't brush her teeth and won't do anything I ask her too it makes me angry but tonight I just took a deep breath and told her 15 times to get ready for bed.

Finally I said, "Are you angry at me because I scolded you for writing on the house?"

She nodded.

"You can't be angry at me because you did something wrong." I told her.

"But I didn't MEAN to." she said.

"You did." I told her.  "You drew long lines on the house and you wrote your initials.  It wasn't an accident."

"But..." she stopped.

"Let me tell you two things." I said to her. "The first is that when you've done something wrong that has hurt someone's feelings or injured someone or something the best thing to do is NOT get angry with them for getting upset.  The best thing to do is just to look at them and say, 'I'm sorry.  What can I do?'"

She nodded.  "Ok" she told me.  "I'm sorry I wrote on the house."

"Ok" I told her.  "And the second thing," I added, "is if you're going to write someplace you shouldn't, don't write your initials!"

She laughed.

 

Baboon Business

I'm in Manhattan for a meeting and am wearing a dry-clean-only low cut blouse that typically "accentuates my positives" - if you know what I mean.

Except that I packed in the dark and the last time I wore this blouse I apparently spilled something on myself because there are what appear to be soy sauce stains on my otherwise perfect bosom.

So while the message I was trying to convey was "Smart but Sexy" I'm afraid that what I'm actually walking in with is "Smart but with the table skills of a primate."
