Writing Assignment: 6 Word Stories

Today is the last day of my beach vacation so I'm punting.

You know what to do.  

I'll start.

Vacation ends today.  Bought Lottery Ticket.

Your turn.

 A twist:  For every comment I receive today I will put $1 in the pot.  At the end of tomorrow all of the money in the pot will be split between the 3 best 6 word story submissions!  Tell your friends!

 UPDATE:  There were 41 comments before the deadline.  Since $41 doesn't divide evenly into 3, I'm rounding up to $42.

Once There Was A Conga Line and a Room Full of Regrets...

Have you ever had a playful moment when you said something off the cuff and then instantly regretted it?

Yeah, so has my husband.

I saw that, "Oh God What Have I Done?" look on his face last night.

Moments after he told our four children - ages 9, 8, 7 and 5 - that a friend of his used to call farts, "Poopydiddles."

As you can imagine, my children adopted this new moniker WHOLEHEARTEDLY and there was much poopydiddling around the house.

There was even a conga line to the tune of "poopy poopy diddle!" etc.

Since everything that needed to be said, was there in his eyes I just added, "Huh, and I didn't even know they could conga."

 

Can You Breathe Through You Ears?

We're on vacation at the beach this week but it's been storming on and off and we don't have a tv - which has led to a number of interesting exchanges.

Including this one:

My husband, who has been working out a lot lately flezed his biceps for my daughters.  They demanded that he show them whether or not he could flex his pecs.

He could but this led to FURTHER discussion on whether or not we could all wiggle our ears.

"I can!" my husband said - "And I can breathe through them too!" he added, winking at me.

"Let me see!" my 8yo son said.

As my husband started wiggling his ears by son held his hand up beside them to see if he could feel his breath.

 

I Love New York

I'm sorry I didn't post yesterday.  I am on vacation at the beach house and we had a bonfire last night so I was going to post this morning but we walked down the beach and skipped rocks instead.

Priorities people.  I suck at it.  But I am trying to get better.

Anyway, last week I was in New York and I was rushing to get from my office, to pick up lunch, to grab a cab to get to the airport in time for my 4pm flight.

As I walked the 3 blocks to the sushi place I heard screaming in front of me.

It wasn't the kind of screaming I'm used to - kids playing and driving each other crazy - it was the kind of strung out screaming you hear on cops.

As I got closer I could see a woman screaming at a man who was trying to walk away from her.

"Why don't you worry about your own self and let me worry about me?" he asked her calmly.

"At least I sleep with MY husband!" she screamed back.  "I sleep with MY husband every night!" she hollered at the back of his retreating head.

He'd had enough.  He whirled on her, "No you don't!  No you DO NOT!" he objected.  "Because he's in JAIL!" he added for everyone in a 1-2 block radius to hear.

She was UNDAUNTED, "For now!" she hollered back, "FOR NOW!"

He just shook her head and darted into traffic to avoid her.  

Only in New York.

P.S. I got the sushi but the 90 degree cab ride took 90 minutes and I missed my flight.  I sat at JFK and at the cooked sushi (shrimp tempura, soft shelled crab) but decided to pass on the raw fish.  

 

 

How LOUD Are You?

I'm loud.

This is probably obvious.

But I mean REALLY loud.

And it's not just for show, because I'm loud even when I'm alone.

Like moaning loud - but also "Oh, GOD! Yes, Yes" loud.  When there is no one else in the room!

The down side of the kids being home from school is that my husband is less inclined to run errands during the day because he has to take them all.  So THEY NEVER LEAVE.

Which means no 2 minute quickie for me and Siri between conference calls.  I'm crankier already and summer vacation just started!

On Monday I said to my husband, "Can you go keep an eye on them while Siri and I take care of something?" He was pissed at being cut out of the action.

"I'll cover for you later." I promised but he was uncharacteristically jealous and wouldn't help a girl out.  He wanted to 'do it.' - WITH FOUR kids in the house.

No way.

But even if he'd agreed to go downstairs I would have had to stay quiet.

Which would have ruined everything.
