Besides the things I write about here, I have some other hobbies, including running and reading.
I don't write much about those here because this is not a running blog, nor is it a book review blog and I'm not sure that all of you would enjoy those things (and frankly I'm not sure I would enjoy writing blog posts about them.
However, I think it would be great to have a place to share the names of great books that we have read - or to have a place where we can share our triumphs and tragedies on the pavement so I recently started two Facebook groups.
One is a running club called "I Would Run 500 Miles." The purported goal was for everyone to run 500 miles during 2012 but some people have already run more than 80 and some have actually found an online calculator that will convert their "Zumba" workouts to road miles. There are no prizes but it is a great way to stay motivated and see how other people manage to fit workouts into their life. If you're interested, we'd love to have you join us here.
I used to belong to a book club. No, DAMMIT, I STARTED that book club. There were a dozen of it - a core group of my friends and friends of theirs and it was fabulous. Then everyone got married and moved to the Western suburbs. Except me. I moved to the coast - the east coast - 60 miles from everyone else. And I had 4 children. And suddenly driving 60 miles - EACH WAY- to a book wine club meeting no longer seemed like a fabulous idea.
So I quit. But I made them keep sending me the book picks so I could pretend that I hadn't.
This past weekend my friend asked me for a list of great books that I'd read recently and I realized that there really wasn't anything on the list since I'd quit the book club so I decided to get back into it. I had my old book club send me the list of books they'd chosen (and boy, do I have some catching up to do!)
This month they're reading The Paris Wife and SO AM I. If you want to join me, feel free.
And if you're interested in discussing it - or just talking about books in general - join my Facebook bookclub, Turn the Page.
Kit,
I am a member of your 500 mile club. I have been to the gym every week day since the beginning of the year. Your group keeps me getting up because, while I only know one person in the group personally (my sister), I just can't let any of you down. I just cant. And I can't let my sister beat me.

Hi there! Love your blog: I have been reading it for a while now! Can't remember how I found it, but you're hilarious :) Just wanted to share a website that I absolutely love called goodreads.com. Its a website that can keep track of all the books you read (and you can start a book club). I don't think its very well known, but it does link with facebook in case you're interested!
