My company was acquired about a year ago and we're finally going through a reorganization that has me working in New York City two days a week starting this week.
I am THRILLED.
Of course it's going to take some getting used to and being away from the kids will be hard but the truth is that it's only one night per week and my husband is a rock star father.
I LOVE to travel and despite living so close I've never spent very much time in New York City.
I'm so excited to go and take pictures and SEE things and go for a run on the East River!
I leave first thing this morning for 48 hours. Be excited for me okay?
Also, leave suggestions on what to do in the comments!!!
Yay!!! I work in NYC

Congrats. I love NYC. My father used to work there when I was a kid and I always loved going to his office way up high. (Something like the 20th floor.) Then, in college, I interned at PBS there working on their website. I'm hoping to take my boys (at least the 8 year old, maybe the 4 year old) there for some sightseeing and a trip to the Natural History Museum.
You should definitely try to make it to Times Square. It's quite a sight to behold. Plus, there's the M&Ms store, Hershey store, and a giant Disney store to visit.

Run on the river? I thought they cleaned it up. Or are you magic?

Never been there (either) so can't suggest but am really excited for you; especially the picture-taking part! Have fun and enjoy every minute of it!

Hmmm.....I am unsure whether I would be excited about essentially losing two days of work from home time to show up in an office. I guess as long as the company covered travel expenses.

Top of the Rock, run through Central Park (you can also go ice skating at Wollman Rink), South Street Seaport, visit the food carts by Bryant Park (they have cute little shops there too), MOMA, get Chinese food at the Chinatown Brasserie, Russian Vodka Room....so many possibilities!!

Go see a Broadway show! Some have Thursday night show times. I love visiting NY.

I used to live in north Jersey, and now that I'm a 4 hour drive from the city, I really miss it.
For suggestions: walk everywhere you can (you'll get to see so much that you'd miss taking in from public transportation), never eat at the same place twice for the first year (even if you think you found the perfect pizza or pastry or whatever . . . it's worth checking out a new place), take in Times Square, run in Central Park (one of my absolute favorite days, ever, included a picnic in Central Park - perhaps with a side of groping under the blanket we put down), stop & listen to street performers every once in awhile (but ignore any sidewalk evangelists).

Fun! I love to travel too, I only wish I had a job that allowed me to do some more than once a year for a conference.
Can't wait to hear all about your NYC adventures!

You must. MUST. get some pizza. This is a law.

You lucky thing, I'll have a think and send you some of my favs! If you go to Times Square wear comfortable shoes, walk quickly straight through the middle, use your elbows as blockers and then go somewhere non-touristy when you pop out the other side ;) Never go back unless it is for a Broadway show - even better don't go unless it's for a show - ha!
