As a full time working mother trying to squeeze in workouts and blogging, I don't have a lot of extra time for pampering myself. Let's be honest, I barely have time to brush my teeth and shower. Drying my hair is a luxury reserved for weekends, date night and corporate meetings.
Barring that, I can usually be found wearing jeans, crocs, a ponytail and no makeup.
Until recently.
The other day I was picking my daughter up from school and I bumped into my friend. She was telling me a story but I interupted her to say, "You look great!"
She laughed at me and said, "I'm wearing eyeliner because I'm freaking exhausted and I figured it would distract from the dark, puffy circles under my eyes. I guess that says how I normally look!"
She was right, it was the eyeliner.
Since then I've been making an effort to wear eyeliner whenever I leave the house. I typically don't wear eyeliner unless I wear shadow and mascara because they eyeliner looks too dark without shadow and shadow lightens my lashes so I need mascara... at least that's what I used to think.
The other day I bought a lighter brown shade of eyeliner that blends in better. Now I can get away with a little eyeliner to bring out my eyes without spending 5 minutes "putting on my face."
It's made a huge difference in how I feel when I go out.
The other thing that I've been doing lately is making sure to put on lipstick whenever I get into my car. It's not a big deal but it means that whenever I go out I have lipstick on and people have commented, "You look great!"
Besides, it makes me rub my lips together which helps me remember to smile - and really, that's the best accessory you can wear!
(Shown below: my GOTO lipstick, Clinique Black Honey - it's not a real shade, it just makes your lips POP! Try it today!)

When I got laid off in August my hygiene went out the window. If I showered and brushed my teeth it was a very productive day. I got back on the hygiene wagon and I've been doing the same thing, trying to throw on lip gloss or something just to make myself feel like a human being instead of a useless member of society.

Organized as it all sounds, you'll probably never need my favorite bumper sticker: "Caution: Driver applying lipstick"

I never got the hang of putting on eyeliner. When I was in the local production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado, we had to wear it as part of our makeup for the show and I had to have someone else (usually my daughter) put it on for me.

I always wear eyeliner. Always always.
Try to draw the line actually ON your lashes. Then it's a finer line, adelheid_p. And what really really looks good is actually drawing a line on the inside of your eye. Yep. On the wet bit under your lashes. It makes them look darker and longer and thicker.
