We spent the weekend at the beach.
Oh, sure, there wer MOUNTAINS of laundry that needed to be done because of the power outage.
And refrigerator full of sketchy food that needed to undergo a SERIOUS sniff test.
And there was STILL a sinkful of dishes that promised to get bigger (post sniff tests) before it got smaller.
But it was Labor Day weekend in New England and there was a chance that my feet wouldn't touch the sand for at least 9 months so we ran the dishwasher, moved the laundry to the dryer and hit the road.
It was heaven.
First of all the weather forecast was for thundershowers all weekend. They never materialized. The weather was 80 degrees and sunny, Friday - Monday and we made every ray count.
The lingering effects of Irene meant huge swells. We're lucky enough not to live on a beach with rip tides so the kids enjoyed playing in the surf. My husband and I joined them. It was fun to see the kids that started the weekend a little bit frightened, find their courage and jump on in.
At one point my husband was on the beach and decided that he was going to dive into a HUGE wave just as it was about to break, Baywatch style. I was in the water and got picked up in the air as the wave passed under me. Then I saw my husband start to run toward it.
I saw him put his hands over his head and dive toward it. And then I saw his feet, which had been parallel, stop in mid-air, go askew and then fly in what appeared to be 16 different directions.
When my husband finally surfaced, rubbing his head where it had lost a few layers of skin on the sandy bottom, I called to him, "And that, is what you call Ass over Teakettle."
OMG too funny! Poor guy though... he was going for style points and got sand blasted instead.

My husband tends to dive into water head first, only to realize it's low tide. He considers bleeding the only true mark of a good time.

HA!
And I may have done the same while boogie boarding.
Two or three times.
