Confession: I love the B-sides. Some of my favorite songs are ones that other people have never heard of.
A couple of weeks ago, when I was lying on the floor in a hotel room in San Diego, facing the realization that I was not going to be able to go home the following day this song popped into my head.
At first it made me feel worse. And then it made me feel better.
You're My Home
by Billy Joel
When you look into my eyes
And you see the crazy gypsy in my soul
It always comes as a surprise
When I feel my withered roots begin to grow.
Well I never had a place
That I could call my very own
But that's all right my love
Cuz you're my home.
When you touch my weary head
And you tell me everything will be alright
You say, "Use my body for your bed.
And my love will keep you warm throughout the night."
Well I'll never be a stranger
And I'll never be alone
Wherever we're together
That's my home.
Home could be the Pennsylvania Turnpike
Indiana's early morning dew
High up in the hills of California
Home is just another word for you.
Well I never had a place
That I could call my very own
But that's all right my love
Cuz you're my home.
If I travel all my life
And I never get to stop and settle down
Long as I have you by my side
There's a roof above and good walls all around.
You're my castle and my cabin
And my instant pleasure dome
I need you in my house
Cuz you're my home.
That is my favorite Billy Joel song. And one of my all-time favorite songs.
And, possibly, the only song that I actually sound good playing & singing. I need to vlog it.

Wow. Thank you for this! I guess my short attention span never allowed me to venture beyond the 3 most played songs... I read this post after I read the letter from your reader. I wonder whether that moron boyfriend of hers would be crying and saying the exact same things after she kicks him out for good. I am going to find this song and learn to sing it. Thanks!
