Tonight we put the kids to bed somewhere around 50 times between the 4 of them. About 40 of these times were the girls and of the two of them about 30 were the 3 year old .
It's not that we're overly patient - far from it. On a normal night we would lay the hammer down around the 4th time and that would be it. The problem is that we were too tired tonight to put on a big show of fury and so they walked all over us. It happens.
"How can 4 children get up 50 times?" You may be wondering. (If you don't have any children of your own - otherwise you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.)
Here is an example:
5yo, walking into my office: "Mom, I think you need to take me to the doctor tomorrow."
Me: "Why?"
5yo: "Because there is something wrong inside my pinkie (showing said finger) and it really hurts."
3yo, walking into my office: "Mom, my finger is wrong." (showing said finger)
5yo, aghast: "LIAR!"
3yo, completely indignant: "YOUR PANTS ARE ON FIRE!"
Me: "Go to bed."
Exit cutenesses.
REPEAT. REPEAT. REPEAT. 45 more times.
I have the patience of a saint. Except at bedtime. RAWR.

LOL! I borrowed from Roseanne's sitcom and mockingly got onto the elder child (Boy1). I scolded him for saying everything his sister was going to say before she said it.

Over and over and over: I need a snack-drink-hug-another hug-parade-pony-40cupcakesfortomorrow. JUST GO TO BED, kid.
Fortunately, one of my two goes to bed and stays there.

Mine 'hear a noise' and become 'scared' but ONLY if they haven't gotten their 15 minutes of story time. So either I read to them for 15 minutes, or spend an hour listening to them whine and patter down the hall. It's all about the comfort of routine and proximity of mom at the end of the day to feel secure.
